GEMS! [4]

GEMS! is a post where i'll upload up to 10 songs of my liking and the ones that i'm currently hooked on. Old, new, english, spanish, whatever i like and know that most people will. today i'll post 10 absolutely random songs that i love and soon you will, here goes:

  • You can't go wrong with an opening line that'll suck you in a song, especially when it's Gavin who's singing. This is one of the best songs on his self-titled sophomore album.

  • Nneka, I don't know much about her, but I do love her and her voice. This song is definitely a grower, the chorus and hook afterwards might get stuck in your head all week. It's a weird song, definitely check it out

  • Thanks to the newly leaked "Perfectly Clear", I had a chance to reminisce and listen to some of the older Jewel songs, this one is a stellar number and one of my favorites of hers.

  • Mmm, I like it. It's kinda like Eiffel 65's "Blue" meets Chris Brown's "Forever".

  • Mr. Jak's music is in the vein of John Mayer, Gavin DeGraw, Matt Nathanson..etc. So you know what you'd expect, this song is.. beautiful, to say the least.

  • Now I've looked EVERYWHERE for this song, it wasn't easy to find, but here it is, it's STUNNING, and so freaking simple, it's one of the simplest song I've ever heard, mostly scatting and repeating of the line "you're too young" over and over again! Definitely check it out.

  • This song got the exposure it deserves when it was featured on the season finale of Grey's Anatomy, and it's well-deserved. Priscilla's voice is one of the sweetest voice nowadays, her music kinda reminds me of A Fine Frenzy's debut.

  • Can this song be more arrogant?

  • Kleerup, of "With Every Heartbeat" fame, and most recently "Longing For Lullabies", released his self-titled debut, in sweden, and to be quiet honest, it all sounds a bit samey, but I loved With Every Heartbeat, so the album was an absolute delight, this song however, stands out a bit, as it's quickly becoming my favorite off the album

  • Angry Alanis is back, this one's an instant.

M.I.A. - Paper Planes [Scottie B Remix]

This is one of the best remixes done for the brilliant song, and it's pretty rare.. maybe cause it's new, i don't know. Anyways, download it and tell me what you think! It mixes Paper Planes with XR2, works like magic.

Who? Laura Marling Genre? Acoustic/Folk/Britpop About: One of the many new ladies emerging in 2008, her debut album "Alas I Cannot Swim" came out few weeks ago, and guess what? It IS really good. Here are 4 songs of hers, I won't post the whole album, buy it off 7Digital or Amazon. 'New Romantic', I saw the video of this song, and then bought the album immediately, seriously! The video is one of the best videos you'll see all year! The song itself is so simple, and chilling at the same time. 'Ghosts', now how can you not love this? listen to the lyrics, they're brilliant! 'Old Stone', this is one is a bit different, it's more SiA/Tori-like, it's my second favorite song from the album. 'Failure', this song just gets to me, I can't not love it!

Artist-you-might-not-know-but-should-really-know [17]

Who? Anouk Genre? Soul/Rock/Funk About: Think P!nk, Amy Winehouse, a twist of Nikka Costa, and a tiny bit of Anastacia. That's in short. She's angry, soulful and has catchy tunes! "If I Go" is an angry track, with guitars and drums in the background, "If I go, I would be taking with me more than you would care to lose " "Might As well" I would love to hear this sung by Nikka Costa, it's absolutely mind blowing, she's particularly angry in here, it's my second favorite! "If You Were Mine" she slows it down in this song, it's peaceful, calm and incredibly moving, the lyrics are deep and her voice has something special that clearly shines in the chorus of this song, it's weird, but I like it! "Good God (The Anonymous Remix)", the remix is MUCH better than the original which is a bit of a blah, but this totally changing remix made this song my favorite of hers, it's absolutely brilliant, this is more in the area of Nikka/Amy, this should've been a greater hit!

Anouk:
If I Go
Might As Well
If You Were Mine
Good God (The Anonymous Remix)
Song Of The Day

Song: Black Coffee
Artist: All Saints
Ablum: Saints & Sinners
In short: I got to know about this song by someone amazing [thanks!] and ever since i got hooked on the song, give it a listen. This is one of the "great" All Saints songs, it's really catchy and.. lovely! I'll include the Neptunes remix [which is better than the original] but you get to decide! Enjoy

Song Of The Day

Song: Trust A Try
Artist: Janet Jackson
Ablum: All For You
In short: This song was totally snubbed from being released as a single, it's one of the few tracks that I call a "masterpiece". The structure of the song, the guitars, the lyrics, the emotions..etc. and the vocals are on point in here. This song is a haunting piece of genius.

Introducing: Anousheh Khalili

Anousheh Khalili didn't have much success with her debut, "Let the Ground Know Who's Standing on Him", which to be honest, i didn't listen to [i'll do so later], BUT i've came across two new demos she posted on her Myspace or whatever, I stumbled across the songs through a blog I don't remember its name, so cred goes to him/her. Those two songs are just magnificent. "Parachutes" is an amazing acoustic ballad in the vein of SiA's music, the smooth vocals will certainly put you in a calm mood. This song wouldn't sound out of place on the soundtrack of The OC [rip], it's a brilliant tune. "Submarines" is another ballad, but it's piano-driven, and will suck you in to Anousheh's world. Listen to them and FEEDBACK!

Avril Lavigne - Black Friend [Girlfriend Parody]

this is so hilarious it hurts. "hey, hey, look, look, i have got a black friend, and so I finally got some street cred"

Labels:

Snoop Dogg - Sexual Eruption (Feat. Robyn)

Robyn does it again, she blows snoop out of the water! The song is electro/rap/pop.. weird, eh? No, no, believe me, it's brilliant! Sweden's hottest import since.. well, ever with pothead doggy dogg, how can this not be good? it is good, it's bloody great to be honest.

Destiny's Child - Through With Love [Nostalgia]

Clearly the best song on their latest album, and it was never released as a single!! why? i don't know! instead we got that god awful "Girl" [okay, not AWFUL, but nowhere near as good as Through With Love]. Anyways, for those of you who are not familiar with this song, it's Destiny's Child at their very best [up there with Survivor], It was intended to be released as the final single, but then I don't know what went wrong [maybe their tour] and they didn't release it, sadly. Would've loved to see Michelle scream her lungs out at the end [i hope she does well with her new album, circle of prayer y'all].

Alanis Morissette - Let's Do It (Let's Fall In Love)

LET'S DO IT! the song, taken from the soundtrack of the movie De-Lovely, is one of the most addicting songs, ever. it'll put you in a good mood. I must say, the lyrics are nothing short of amazing, they deserve to be posted below! READ:

"But that's why birds do it,
Bees do it,

Even educated fleas do it,
Let's do it, let's fall in love.

In Spain the best upper sets do it,
Lithuanians and Lets do it,
Let's do it, let's fall in love.

The Dutch in old Amsterdam do it,
Not to mention the Finns,
Folks in Siam do it,
Think of Siamese twins.

Some Argentines without means do it,
People say in Boston even beans do it,
Let's do it, let's fall in love.

Romantic sponges they say do it,
Oysters down in Oyster Bay do it,
Let's do it, let's fall in love.

Cold Cape Cod clams 'gainst their wish do it,
Even lazy jellyfish do it,
Let's do it, let's fall in love.

Electric eels, I might add, do it,
Though it shocks 'em I know,

Why ask if shads do it,
Waiter bring me shad roe.

In shallow shoals English soles do it,
Goldfish in the privacy of bowls do it,
Let's do it, let's fall in love.

The dragonflies in the reeds do it,
Sentimental centipedes do it,
Let's do it, let's fall in love.

Mosquitoes, heaven forbid, do it,
So does every katydid do it,
Let's do it, let's fall in love.

The most refined ladybugs do it,
When a gentleman calls,
Moths in your rugs do it,
What's the use of moth balls?

Locusts in trees do it,
Bees do it,
Even overeducated fleas do it,
Let's do it, let's fall in love.

Let's do it, let's fall in love"

Wake Me Up - Girls Aloud [Nostalgia]

I've been playing this song almost nonstop all week. It's my most played song in the past two months, I know, I know, it's old, but that doesn't mean it's any less brilliant! Xenomania has always produced pure pop songs, that had hit written all over them, and it was in the case of Girls Aloud that they made sure about all that, this song is one of the many many songs that proves just that. Many people mock Girls Aloud because they're a "manufactured band/group" well, that says nothing about the fact that they've had 16 consecutive top 10 hits, and are featured in Guinness book of records for that. Anyways, off point!! The song is pop's finest, the intro is one of pop's finest moments, the structure of the song builds up brilliantly. I can't praise this song enough, get on with downloading it already!!

Who? Vivian Green Genre? Soul/R&B/ About: Some might call her an Alicia Keys clone, but she's just as good as Alicia, but never got the exposure she needs! If you like anything by Alicia, give her a try, you never know, Here are four songs off her album "A Love Story", the album is ace, really. "What Is Love?" starts a bit slow, but catches up when the chorus hits, but the message/lyrics are great, just like each song on the album. "Final Hour" another song that I really really love from the album, the piano intro, to the lush vocals, the rhymes, the emotions, every single thing is on point in here. "Emotional Rollercoaster" is my favorite song of hers, and one of my all-time fav. R&B/Soul songs, seriously that song should've/could've been massive given the proper promotion, damn you record companies! listen to this song, it's immense! and come on, who hasn't been on an "emotional rollercoaster"?
"Fanatic" is a song anyone in love could relate to, well, anyone "crazy" in love. It's another standout track off the album. Now download the songs, listen to them and tell me what you think ;)

James Morrison - This Boy [Nostalgia]

This song out of Morrison's debut album, gets to me for some reason! It's my second favorite after "You Give Me Something". Its lyrics are one of James' best, the first and second verses are deep.

Melanie C. - Last Night On Earth [Nostalgia]

To me, this is one of Mel C.'s highpoints post the Spice Girls, taken from her beautiful rock-driven album "Beautiful Intuitions". From the first second, this song is all shades of amazing, seriously! If you loved anything by Mel. before, you'll drool over this, the sassy vibe of the song makes it 10x amazing.

The Used - All That I've Got [Nostalgia]

This is one of, if not, The Used's best songs! The chorus is pumping lol! It's punk rock at its best. give it a try, you might like it!

Song Of The Day

Song: Black Cat
Artist: Janet Jackson
Ablum: Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814
In short: A #1 hit back in the day, and still listenable and "current" nowadays, one of my favorite Janet tracks ever, it's so.. well, fierce! The lyrics, the guitars, the screaming/singing, it's all great!! Download it, you'll never regret it!

The Ting Tings - Great DJ

The Ting Tings are one of the bands/artists that were many's "tip of 2008". And like Adele, there's a reason behind that, they're innovative [unlike Adele, still love her], creative, and experimental [resulting in amazing stuff]. Take this song for an instance, nothing "OMG!!!" crazy about it, just a simple pop song with an EXTREMELY catchy chorus. Which made me think how most of the hit songs nowadays had choruses with repeated words/sentences [ella ella eh eh/gimme gimme, more/lowlowlowlowlowlowlowlow/No,no,no.../keep bleeding, keep keep bleeding] on and on.. It's weird. Anyways, back to the song, it's good, download it now, thank you for co-operating.

Bodyrox & Luciana - What Planet You On?

Remember the Taio Cruz song I posted not too long ago, "Take You Away (Come On Girl)"? with Luciana? anyways, it's the same girl in here, this is not like that one, this is more dance/electro oriented! Again, it's another dancefloor filler, I can see this taking the #1 spot on the Dance charts! It's catchy and sing-along-able, what more do you want from a pop song?

Bodyrox & Luciana - What Planet You On?

Labels:

Brit & Alex - Let It Go [New Single]

"Let It Go", the first single from the duo (who's been around for quiet a while, may I say), is featured on the Step Up 2 soundtrack. The song sounds like something Ciare/Cassie/Rihanna
[after GGGB, I will never classify Rihanna with them, sorry.] It's mediocre R&B, but catchy as hell and.. well, it puts me in a good mood, hopefully it'll have the same effect on you! This won't go unnoticed.

Boomkat - Don't B So Shy [New Single]

This song wouldn't sound out of place on Robyn's latest album (i.e. ace). This is the duo's new single off their upcoming album "A Million Trillion Stars"! it's electro-pop/funk-esque-ish-whatever. Download it!

Boomkat - Don't B So Shy

Pin Me Down - Cryptic [New Single]

The intro is AMAZING. This is a pop/rock/electro song, brilliant! I really have nothing more to say about it except it's one of my current favorites!

Ida Corr - Ride My Tempo [New Single]

Can I say something? this song is HOT. it's like a cross between Fedde le Grand's The Creeps and Let Me Think About It, if you liked either, you'll love this, it's absolutely brilliant! It's a certified "club banger". Surefire dancefloor filler!

Ida Corr - Ride My Tempo

Labels: ,

Anna Nalick - Shine [New Single]

"Shine" the new single by Anna Nalick, It's nowhere near as good as "Breathe", but what is? Anyways, The lyrics are powerful, and Anna vocal's are on point. There's a line i love “There are times when the poets and porn stars align, and you won’t know who to believe in, well that’s a good time to be leaving”, nice.
